PUBLICATION ETHICS PRINCIPLES
The publishing processes of Selcuk University the Journal of Social and Technical Researches are based on the objective production, development and sharing of information using scientific methods.
The journal observes the principles of transparency, confidentiality, and accountability within the framework of ethical rules throughout the national and international dissemination of information. In addition, it aims to continuously improve all processes in an efficient and competitive structure with a quality-oriented approach. Ethical standards for publication exist to ensure high-quality scientific publications, public confidence in scientific findings, and people's opinions being respected.
• Honest researchers do not plagiarize.
• They do not cite sources incorrectly.
• They do not hide objections that they cannot refute.
• They do not distort opposing views.
• They do not destroy or hide data.
Peer-reviewed studies are studies that support and implement the scientific method. At this point, it is of great importance that all parties involved in the publication process (authors, readers and researchers, publisher, referees, and editors) comply with ethical principles. The Journal adheres to national and international standards on research and publication ethics. It complies with Press Law, Intellectual and Artistic Works Law and Higher Education Institutions Scientific Research and Publication Ethics Directive. The journal has adopted the International Ethical Publishing Principles published by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), Open Access Scholarly Publishers Association (OASPA) and World Association of Medical Editors (WAME). It also undertakes to comply with the Decisions of the Türkiye Editors' Workshop.

Ethical Duties and Responsibilities of the Publisher
Simultaneous submission of the same work to more than one journal
Authors cannot submit the same article to more than one journal at the same time. The editor reserves the right to consult the other editor(s) receiving the article if it learns of possible simultaneous submission. In addition, the editor may return the article without review or reject it without considering the reviews or take this decision by discussing it with the other relevant editor(s) and may decide not to accept article submissions from the authors for a certain period. It can also write to the authors' employers or implement all these measures together.
Republishing
Republishing is the publication of the same article or substantially similar articles in more than one journal. The editor returns this type of article without review. After that, the editor may impose an embargo on the author attempting to republish for a certain period, explain this situation to the public in the journal in which the author has previously published (perhaps as a simultaneous announcement with the editor of the journal that published the previous article), or apply all these measures together.
Ethical Duties and Responsibilities of the Editorial Board
Editorial Confidentiality Obligation
• Editors of Selçuk University the Journal of Social and Technical Researches treat all submitted manuscripts as confidential documents; this means that they will not disclose information about an article to anyone without the permission of the authors. During the article review process, the following people can access the articles: Editors, Reviewers, Editorial Board Members. The only situation in which details about a manuscript may be passed on to a third party without the consent of the authors is if the editor suspects serious research misconduct.
• The editorial board of the journal consists of academicians who are experts in their fields from Selcuk University. Members of the Editorial Board are appointed by considering the branches of science, engineering and social sciences, and the members are appointed according to the demands of the editor-in-chief and the members of the editorial board. A new member is appointed to replace the departed member. According to the subject of the article, the editor may send an article to non-Editorial Board members for review as a field editor, when necessary.
• The journal takes all necessary precautions to clarify a situation regarding any article, to make changes to the article in question, or to claim or prove that the work contains any scientific misconduct, fraudulent publication, plagiarism, or close cooperation with the editors.
• The journal, together with the editors, will take the necessary steps to prevent the publication of the article in which any abuse has occurred, and will not under any circumstances allow such abuse or knowingly such abuse to take place.
• The journal is responsible for responding to any allegations or doubts raised by readers, reviewers, or other editors. In such a case, the relevant article is evaluated by the journal and necessary explanations are made.
• Editorial board is responsible for every article submitted to the the journal and even for all its processes after its publication, and the Editorial Board knows this responsibility. This responsibility is solely for the public interest in the decisions made on issues related to the journal; requires independent decision making without considering personal gain. The relationship between the publisher and the Editorial Board is based on the principle of independence, all decisions taken by the editors are independent of the publisher and other individuals and organizations.
• Editorial board strives to continuously improve the Journal and increase its publication quality. It also ensures the determination and implementation of journal policies such as publication, blind refereeing, evaluation process, and ethical principles. Editorial board protects the copyright of the authors of the articles published in the journal and is responsible for taking precautions regarding intellectual property rights, scientific-unethical behaviours, plagiarism, and citation gangs during the publication process of articles and journals. The Editorial Board prepares a "Writing rules" containing the information requirements of the author(s), and a "Referee evaluation guide" containing the information that the referees will need during the evaluation phase and updates it when necessary.
• Editorial board determines policies that motivate the referees and author(s) and keeps the records of each article and correspondence related to the journal electronically.
Ethical Duties and Responsibilities of Authors
• Author(s) cannot follow the process for the same article in two journals at the same time. When the process is completed in one journal and his article is rejected, he can send his article to the other journal. An article published in another journal cannot be sent to the the journal.
• The author(s) should prepare and submit their work to the journal as original.
• The author(s) should refer to the sources they used during the writing of the article in a correct and complete manner in line with ethical principles.
• The names of people who do not contribute to the article should not be written as authors, and it should not be suggested to change the author order, remove an author, or add an author of an article applied for publication.
• If there is a need to add an author, change the order of authors, or remove an author to an article whose evaluation process has been started in the journal, an application can be made to the journal management with the approval of all the Author(s). Journal management examines the application and notifies the responsible author of the decision.
• Persons who have a conflict-of-interest regarding the article for which the application for publication has been submitted should be reported to the editors and explained.
• During the evaluation process, information or raw data about their articles can be requested from the author(s) by the editor, referee, and field editor. Therefore, the author(s) should have the information or raw data of their articles ready to present.
• The author(s) should document that they have obtained the right to use the data they use in their articles, the permissions for the research-analysis or the consent of the participants on whom they have researched.
• The author(s) should contact the editor to inform, correct or retract when they notice an error in an article that is in the evaluation and early view stage or published in electronic media.
• The author(s) has obtained ethics committee approval for studies that require data collection through quantitative or qualitative methods such as experiments, questionnaires, scales, interviews, observations, focus group studies, which require an ethics committee decision; Ethics committee name, decision date and number should be specified in the "Ethical Approval" section of the candidate article, and the document showing the ethics committee decision should be uploaded to the system with the application of the article.
• The author(s) should present in the article evidence of their care for ethical principles in the data collection process (such as obtaining their permission to use other people's documents such as scales, questionnaires, photographs).
• It should be stated in the articles that research and publication ethics and copyright regulations for intellectual and artistic works are complied with.
• If the research was carried out on human and animal subjects, it should be reported that the research was carried out in accordance with international reports, guidelines, etc.
• Ethics committee approval is not required for review articles from the author(s). However, it should be stated in the "Ethical Approval" section of the article that an ethics committee decision is not required for articles that do not require an ethics committee decision.
• Every article submitted for evaluation for publication is checked by the editors for plagiarism with the iThenticate software.
• If the similarity index (SI) of the article is above 20% and the single source similarity rate is above 5%, excluding the reference sections, it is sent back to the relevant author to reduce it below these rates.
• If plagiarism is proven after the publication of the relevant article, the article will be immediately withdrawn and removed from the website. In such a case, the articles of the relevant authors will be deemed not suitable for publication in the the journal for five years.
• The author(s) must inform the journal management for correction or retraction of the article in case of any errors or inaccuracies in the pre-control, evaluation, editing and publication stages.
Notifying the editor of the situation that does not comply with the ethical principles
In case of a behaviour that does not comply with the ethical principles regarding the journal editors, referees, authors, or an unethical situation regarding an article in the evaluation process, early view or published, it should be reported to sosyoteknik@selcuk.edu.tr
Correction, Withdrawal, Expression of Concern
Editors may consider issuing a correction if minor errors are detected in the published article that do not affect the findings, comments, and conclusions. Editors should consider retracting the article in case of major errors/violations that invalidate the findings and conclusions. If there is a possibility of misuse of research or publication by the authors; If there is evidence that the findings are unreliable and that the authors' institutions did not investigate the incident, or if the potential investigation seems unfair or inconclusive, editors should consider issuing a statement of concern. The COPE and ICJME guidelines are considered regarding correction, withdrawal, or expression of concern.
Objection Process
We welcome serious objections to reviews by editors and reviewers. If you think we rejected your article because we misunderstood the scientific content, please send an objection message to our editorial team at sosyoteknik@selcuk.edu.tr Do not try to submit a revised version of your article at this stage. If, after reading your objection letter, we understand that your objection is justified, we may invite you to submit a revised version of your article. Thus, your work is sent back to the external referee process. Please include as much detail as possible in the appeal letter. Finally, we can only consider one objection per article, so please take the time and effort to write the letter in detail to make your objection clear - you have a chance, so use it well. We have found that prolonged negotiation over rejected articles is often unsatisfactory for both authors and editors, so we do not process multiple appeals for the same work.
Studies that require Ethics Committee Permission/legal/special permission
In accordance with the publication rules of Selcuk University the Journal of Social and Technical Researches, the statement indicating where, in which scope, date and issue number the Ethics Committee Permission was obtained in studies requiring Ethics Committee Permission / legal / special permission, must be stated in the article at the time of submission of the article to the Journal.
Studies that require the approval of the Ethics Committee are as follows.
• All kinds of research conducted with qualitative or quantitative approaches that require data collection from the participants by using survey, interview, focus group work, observation, experiment, interview techniques.
• The use of humans and animals (including material/data) for experimental or other scientific purposes,
• Clinical studies on humans,
• Research on animals,
• Retrospective studies in accordance with the law on the protection of personal data,
Moreover;
• Obtaining and specifying permission from the owners for the use of scales, questionnaires, photographs belonging to others,
• If the study will be carried out in any institution or organization, approval must be obtained from that institution or organization.
• Indication of compliance with copyright regulations for the intellectual and artistic works used
Principles of Research Ethics
• Selcuk University the Journal of Social and Technical Researches observes the highest standards in research ethics and adopts the international research ethics principles defined below. The compliance of the articles with the ethical rules is the responsibility of the authors.
• Principles of integrity, quality and transparency should be ensured in designing the research, reviewing the design and conducting the research.
• The research team and participants, the purpose of the research, its methods, and possible uses; should be fully informed about the necessities and risks, if any, of participating in the research.
• Confidentiality of information provided by research participants and confidentiality of respondents should be ensured. Research should be designed in a way that preserves the autonomy and dignity of the participants.
• Research participants should take part in the research voluntarily and should not be under any coercion.
• Damage to the participants should be avoided. The research should be planned in such a way that it does not put the participants at risk.
• Be clear about research independence; If there is a conflict of interest, it should be stated.
• In experimental studies with human subjects, written informed consent must be obtained from participants who decide to participate in the research. The consent of the legal guardian of children and custodians or those with a confirmed mental illness must be obtained.
• If the study will be carried out in any institution or organization, approval must be obtained from that institution or organization.
• In studies with a human element, it should be stated in the “methods” section that “informed consent” was obtained from the participants and ethics committee approval was obtained from the institution where the study was conducted.
